How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have to decide what they are looking for in a deal if they ultimately decide to trade John Collins. If they are looking for similar value player-wise, this isn’t a deal that will interest them too much.

However, if the Hawks are looking to clear some salary and have flexibility for the future, this may be a deal that interests them. For starters, they are receiving two future first-round picks, which teams always value.

When you include the future first-round pick they acquired from the New York Knicks via the Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta could be in business when it comes to the draft.

Knowing they will have multiple chances to add young, high-upside, cost-controlled players to the roster could intrigue Atlanta. They would have the flexibility to make a blockbuster trade as well given the young players they already have on the roster and the draft capital they would have built up.

Dwight Powell isn’t a star, but he is a steady contributor on both ends of the court. A good defender and efficient player offensively, he is someone that analytics is a fan of.

Dorian Finney-Smith is someone that could be a long-term piece. He is averaging a career-high 10.5 points per game this season and is an excellent defender. If the Atlanta Hawks do not believe they can count on De’Andre Hunter to be a part of their core any longer, Finney-Smith could step into his spot likely at a much cheaper price.
