Would this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
For the Detroit Pistons, this is actually a very intriguing trade package. They’d get a couple of young players and two unprotected first-round picks for a guy that probably doesn’t fit into their long-term plans anyways. That’s a win.
Talen Horton-Tucker hasn’t excelled this year with the Lakers, but he also hasn’t had a ton of freedom. He’s under extreme pressure to perform in a very specific role. In Detroit, he’d have a lot more freedom to become the best version of himself in a role that he’s most comfortable in.
Kendrick Nunn hasn’t played yet this year, but the last time he played he was a great shooter. He was the perfect sparkplug scorer for the Miami Heat, and he’s still only 26 years old. Nunn has a player option for next year, though, so the Pistons might be best off shipping him off to a third team if he doesn’t want to play in Detroit.
Lastly, those picks are deceivingly valuable. By the time 2025 and 2027 come around, who knows what the Lakers will look like? Will James be in the league anymore? Will Davis be able to carry whatever roster they put together? If they are bad, those picks could be really good.

Combine all that together, and the Detroit Pistons would be getting a solid return for Grant. The only question is, will other teams be willing to offer more. The Lakers could potentially throw in Austin Reaves, but at the end of the day, this is probably the most they’d give up.
