Would this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

The Lakers would be getting more star power, which in their eyes, is the solution to every problem. Realistically speaking, Grant is a solid defender, and with how poor their defense has been this year, they could use a change on that end of the floor.

That being said, this deal would see them fall into the same trap that got them into this position in the first place. When they traded all those pieces for Russell Westbrook and let Alex Caruso walk, they sacrificed all the depth that helped them win a title in 2020.

While none of the pieces they would be losing in this trade are nearly as important as any of the ones given up for Westbrook, it’s still a similar idea. Plus, Grant doesn’t really play the right roles to fit in with how the Lakers play.

The ball is going to be in the hands of James, Westbrook, and Davis at all times. This will force Grant to play a catch-and-shoot role which, while he played it in Denver, doesn’t accentuate his strengths. He’ll simply turn back into a high-end role player.

Grant is great in Detroit because he has the freedom to control the offense, to some degree. He’s been allowed to play his game and the Pistons have played around that. That just wouldn’t be the case in Los Angeles, but then again, none of the pieces they’d be giving up are helping much, anyways.
