Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
The San Antonio Spurs need to hit the “reset” button right now and figure out the path to success moving forward. With no All-Stars on their roster and some moveable contracts, San Antonio would be smart to try and build for the future at the trade deadline.
Moving Thaddeus Young is something that they have been trying to do since the offseason and trading away Derrick White is something that the Spurs have thought about. White is now 27-years-old and with him being on a long-term contract, now would be the best time for them to try and move on from him.
Although he has had some great moments in the backcourt next to Dejounte Murray, White’s upside as a player is limited given his ineffectiveness from the three-point line. Murray is one of the faces of this young Spurs’ team, along with Keldon Johnson, which is why Derrick White could end up being the odd-man-out.
Absorbing Danilo Gallinari’s contract is not something the Spurs would like to do necessarily, but he is a veteran that could be useful in helping this young Spurs team grow.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: New York Knicks Have Trade Interest In Hawks’ Cam Reddish
Cam Reddish would fit right in on the wing next to Keldon Johnson and he could ultimately help San Antonio become a dangerous three-point shooting team. On the season, Reddish is shooting 37.9% from deep and alongside Johnson and McDermott, two of the better three-point shooters in the league, San Antonio would start to have the foundation of an identity on offense.
