San Antonio Spurs Receive: G/F Cam Reddish, F Danilo Gallinari, ATL 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)

Both the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks need to make some changes ahead of the trade deadline and they may be able to help one another out.

This would surely be an eye-opening deal in the NBA and could definitely be one that helps kick-start what is to follow at the trade deadline.

Moving on from Danilo Gallinari seems like something that is inevitable for the Hawks, as he just has not lived up to the value of being a highly paid contributor. Gallinari is owed $20.4M this season and then $21.4M next season, a contract that does not suit his value well since the veteran forward is only averaging 9.8 points per game this season, the lowest since his rookie season (2008-09) with the Knicks.

Being able to trade Gallinari opens the door for the Hawks to add more talent and in this trade with the Spurs, adding on Cam Reddish and a first-round pick would allow them to bring in two impact players in both their backcourt and frontcourt.

Trae Young cannot do everything for the Hawks and over the last year, finding another secondary ball-handler and facilitator has been a main goal of the Hawks’ front-office. Derrick White is definitely not the best player Atlanta could target this season, but he is a steady backcourt presence that is getting better.

Through 37 games with the Spurs this season, White has averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists (career-high) and has shot 42.3% from the floor. His 29.4% three-point shooting percentage is slightly concerning, but Derrick White is another playmaker this Hawks team could take a gamble on.

After all, his production is much better than that of Danilo Gallinari’s right now!

As for Thaddeus Young, he could be a key veteran addition to a Hawks’ frontcourt that is very underwhelmed with talent outside of their starting unit.

Clint Capela starts at center and John Collins at power-forward, but behind them in the rotation, the Atlanta Hawks have Onyeka Okongwu and that is about it.

Adding a little bit more depth with a reliable veteran like Thaddeus Young could go a long way in fixing a lot of their problems, especially on the defensive-end of the floor.
