Would this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
For the Atlanta Hawks, this trade may seem like a lot to give up. They’re dealing John Collins and both of their young wings. However, the deal would net them a 25-year-old All-Star who’s proven to be one of the best two-way wings in the league already. That’s a decent return.
Jaylen Brown would be the ideal player to pair with Trae Young for the future. The Hawks should want to put great defenders around him, and Brown is amazing on that end. In addition, he’s someone who can knock down catch-and-shoot threes while also being able to create his own shot.
While John Collins is a great player, he’ll probably always fall under that category of, ‘maybe he could be an All-Star, but he’s probably just outside that group.” Think CJ McColum or Atlanta Hawks Josh Smith. He’s great, but he’s just a tier away from All-Star-level.
Meanwhile, both De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish are super young, and with how crowded Atlanta’s wing position is, losing them wouldn’t be the end of the world. They would still have Brown, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, and Timothe Luwawu-Cabbarot in the rotation.

The backcourt duo of Young and Brown would dominate the NBA for years to come. Brown would be able to take a ton of pressure off of Young on the defensive end, while also providing relief on offense. It’s the perfect combination.
