Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
Joe Ingles gives the Celtics some veteran leadership and three-point shooting on the wing, but they already have three-point shooting with Josh Richardson. This team struggles as it is from the perimeter and Richardson is shooting 40.8% from deep this season compared to Ingles’ 37.6% from deep this season.
Boston would not only be losing three-point shooting production in this trade, but they would also be losing Dennis Schroder, who has been a terrific secondary ball-handler for them in the backcourt next to Marcus Smart.
The Celtics’ season has been very shaky and moving Schroder is definitely a possibility for them to add more talent at the trade deadline, but what exactly does this team have to gain with Joe Ingles?
They would be able to use part of their $17.1M TPE from moving Evan Fournier to the Knicks this past offseason and Ingles is more experienced than Schroder, but he is not a franchise-altering talent.

Boston is the same, if not worse, with Joe Ingles instead of Josh Richardson and Dennis Schroder, which is why this trade makes minimal sense. That is unless the Celtics are going to give up on the season and look to acquire draft picks and young talents.
Brad Stevens and this front-office are not going to be giving up on anything, which is why they are going to look to be “buyers” instead of “sellers” at the deadline, especially given all of their trade exceptions.
Moving either Richardson or Schroder remains a possibility, but it is hard to imagine that this team will look to move both.
