Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?
While the cost of this trade certainly makes sense for the Charlotte Hornets and Mitchell Robinson would not be a bad “get” for this team, this move should be a last-resort type of deal for the Charlotte Hornets this season.
Mitchell Robinson is not a bad player, but he is underdeveloped, in the final year of his contract and is far from the best player they could target this season ahead of the trade deadline. Set to become a free agent in the offseason, this move would have to pay off big-time for the Hornets and Robinson is just not that kind of player.
Not to mention, they would still have Mason Plumlee and in terms of impact and roles they can have on the floor, he is definitely a better overall center than Mitchell Robinson. While the young center does have better shot-blocking instincts and length than that of Plumlee, it is just hard to see where Mitchell Robinson fits in with the Hornets.
Guys like Myles Turner and Christian Wood are much better options for the Hornets to pursue at the trade deadline, which is why they should be looking for ways to acquire one of them.

Maybe it will cost players like P.J. Washington and/or rookie Kai Jones, but the Hornets are not far off from becoming a real threat. The addition of Mitchell Robinson does not make Charlotte that much better of a team, which is why they should stay away from pursuing him.
