The Boston Celtics are a team that has struggled to begin the 2021-22 NBA season despite coming into the year as a perceived NBA Finals contenders. Due to their struggles, there are many who believe that the Celtics could look to make a trade or two ahead of the deadline. Dennis Schroder is a name that has come up as a piece to watch.

Schroder has played a solid role for the Celtics so far this season. However, he is on a one-year deal and Boston could get some value for him instead of letting him walk in the offseason for free.

According to a report from NBA insider Marc Stein, Schroder is among the most likely players to be moved ahead of the trade deadline.

Indiana’s Myles Turner, Detroit’s Jerami Grant, Boston’s Dennis Schröder, Houston’s Eric Gordon, Orlando’s Terrence Ross, Sacramento’s Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III and Portland’s Robert Covington and Jusuf Nurkić — these are among the players widely considered to be the most likely to be traded between now and the Feb. 10 buzzer.

So far this season with the Celtics, Schroder has played in 32 games and has started in 19 of those appearances. He has averaged 16.5 points per game to go along with 4.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds. Schroder has shot 43.7 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 33.3 of his three-point attempts.

Granted, those numbers don’t look terrible, but they don’t look elite either. But, if there is a team out there that needs some scoring coming off of the bench, Schroder could be a perfect trade target.

Along with getting a player that can make an impact right away, teams would not be committing to paying him past this season. Schroder would be able to walk free after half a season. That would have to be appealing to a contender that is looking to add some more firepower.
