3. Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards are in a bit of an awkward situation. Some of their advanced stats paint a picture of a team that is lucky to have a record of 19-19, which could result in them staying relatively quiet at the trade deadline. However, they cannot afford to not keep pushing forward given the uncertain future facing them.
Superstar Bradley Beal could be hitting free agency this summer. If they want to lock him into a long-term deal, they have to show that they can build a sustainable winner. Staying put at the deadline and seeing how things shake out is not the way to do that.
Shoring things up on the defensive side of the ball is what Washington should focus on. The Wizards are 23rd in defensive rating according to Basketball-Reference and 23rd in net rating. Robert Covington would help turn those numbers around with his versatility to defend both forward spots and even play some center.
Washington is also a poor 3-point shooting team. They are ranked 26th in 3-point percentage at only 32.7 percent. Covington is a respectable 35.7 percent shooter from distance in his career and would help open things up for the team offensively.
