Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Of course going out and seeing what you can get for Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn combined is something the Lakers should look to do, but do they really better themselves with the addition of Derrick White?

Not only would he cost them a lot of money through the years, as his contract runs through the 2024-25 season, but the Lakers’ main problem right now is that they are not a threatening team out on the perimeter and do not have shooters next to LeBron James and Russell Westbrook.

Derrick White has only shot 29% from three-point range this season and for his career, he has only shot 34.1% from deep. This is not really eye-opening for Los Angeles in terms of adding talent ahead of the trade deadline and quite honestly, they are better keeping Talen Horton-Tucker, who has shot 21.4% from distance this season and has more long-term potential.

In this deal with San Antonio, the Lakers would be giving up two minimal impact guys in Horton-Tucker and Nunn, along with two future draft picks, but what they get in return is a player who will make a minimal impact if he does not have the ball in his hands.

There was hope early on in his career that Derrick White could be a catch-and-shoot threat running off of screens, but he has not been this kind of player. The Lakers really need to address their perimeter shooting, which is why White is not the right trade target for them.

Trading Horton-Tucker and Nunn remains a strong possibility for Los Angeles, but not in this trade.
