The Los Angeles Lakers are going to be active in the next few weeks as the NBA trade deadline approach as they look for ways to upgrade their roster. However, their options are certainly limited when it comes to making trades should that be the route that the team takes.
Given their roster construction, building a trade package to acquire an impact player is virtually impossible. Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn are the only players on the roster that have contracts above a veteran’s minimum and below a max deal.
So, unless a team wants a package that includes them and filler, the Lakers could find it difficult to make a deal. The team could continue making calls centered around Russell Westbrook, but it would be a surprise if anyone took him on, as he is playing out a $44.2 million contract this season and has a $47.1 million player option for next season.
As things currently stand, the Lakers are 19-19, right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. They are trying to stay afloat while Anthony Davis is sidelined, as LeBron James is carrying the team in vintage fashion.
