Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
The Magic really do not have anything to lose in this trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Maybe taking on Talen Hoton-Tucker and the contract he just signed is a little unfavorable to them, but at the same time, Horton-Tucker could really see his career take off in Orlando.
We have seen flashes from time-to-time of Talen Horton-Tucker putting everything together offensively, but then he has nights like he did recently against the Suns, where he played 31 minutes and only scored 3 points on 1-13 shooting, recording a -18 plus-minus overall.
The Lakers are a team that is “built to win” right now and they do not have time to wait around for their young talents to produce. If they can get value for someone like Horton-Tucker or Nunn right now, they will pull-the-trigger on the deal, which is why the Magic should be interested in giving up Terrence Ross.
Other than being a reliable veteran on their roster, he provides no future value to this franchise and they should be happy to get two young talents like Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn. Maybe both of these guys provide no long-term future either, but they provide depth for the time being and present more trade value moving forward than that of Ross.

Both Terrence Ross and E’Twaun Moore are not going to be on Orlando’s roster much longer anyways given their age and contracts, which is why getting something out of nothing makes sense for the Magic and their rebuilding process.
