How This Trade Impacts New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are in a bit of a predicament as the game plan they envisioned during the offseason is not panning out. A lot of the Knicks’ success last season was on the back of Julius Randle breaking out, but he has not been as productive this season.
Not only has Randle struggled, but he has also brought everyone down with him. Every player on the team this season has a worse net rating playing alongside Randle than they do with him on the bench.
There are some eye-popping numbers on there, as the front office may be rethinking their plan of having Randle long-term. Trade is extremely unlikely, but with the Los Angeles Lakers looking to remain competitive, the Knicks could try and take advantage by putting a package together to land Anthony Davis.
Davis would give the Knicks a new centerpiece to build around, one with more upside than Randle has. We have seen Davis put together otherworldly performances as the go-to player and New York would be hoping he does that again on Broadway.

It would take a lot to get him, but the New York Knicks are still keeping some of their young assets in this deal, which is a win. But, a lot of depth is being surrendered as Kemba Walker, Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley and Randle are all rotation players. Kevin Knox II isn’t in the regular rotation but stepped up when the team was shorthanded.
Trading away so many draft picks is tough, but this is why you stockpile them; to turn them into monster assets such as Davis. New York still has a good amount of draft capital and young players on the roster that they could swing another sizable trade even after doing this one.
