Once the Los Angeles Lakers part with a superstar like Anthony Davis, there is simply no going back on it. They would need to have supreme confidence in the abilities of Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield, and Richaun Holmes to step-in and make a huge impact.
The draft assets clearly have value but for a Lakers organization that is operating under the timeline of a soon-to-be 37-year-old LeBron James isn’t going to benefit from those picks.
The Lakers need to experience immediate impact from almost every element of a return in a deal that includes Anthony Davis. Even a top 10 pick from the 2022 NBA Draft would have growing pains for a few years in all likelihood. LeBron James could be 40-years-old by the time that player is fully ready to make an impact.
One of the main concerns with the Lakers’ return in this trade is that Sacramento has posted abysmal defensive results. Would taking most their rim protector and two of their wing defenders be a wise choice?
