Would this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
It’s clear the Sacramento Kings are in a position where they need to land an elite player to focus their current building efforts around. Landing a talent like Anthony Davis would achieve this.
There are some concerns with the idea of Anthony Davis being the player the Kings push all their chips into the center of the table for. For starters, De’Aaron Fox still lacks sufficient consistency as a pull-up shooting threat. Given Anthony Davis’ regression as a jump shooter, that could be a problem.
Davis would surely need to man the five spot given his jump shooting decline. Teams would be incentivized to play drop coverage against Fox as it is, so not having a big man clogging the lane while Davis is rim-rolling would be essential for the Sacramento Kings.
The regression Davis has experienced as a shooter would surely require him to man the five spot full-time. He’d be best served defensively in that spot anyway—serving as the anchor for the half-court defense.

The Sacramento Kings would need to be supremely confident in their ability to add helpful role players on the wing alongside their franchise cornerstones. Having to part with Harrison Barnes would leave them very depleted in that regard, but that isn’t a reason to pass on a trade for a superstar.
