Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

This trade certainly benefits the New Orleans Pelicans, but do they really have a need for someone like Christian Wood?

Jonas Valanciunas has played well this season and is definitely someone that they should keep around and when Zion Williamson returns from his foot injury, it is hard to see where Wood would fit into the picture in New Orleans.

It is possible that they could go big and have Zion be their “point guard” alongside a rotation of Graham, Ingram, Wood and Valanciunas, but this really does not make sense for the Pelicans.

Christian Wood’s style of play interferes with that of Jonas Valanciunas since they are both low-post players and with all of the success Wood has had as a “lone big-man” in Houston, he would not really prefer to play alongside someone like Valanciunas who would take numbers away from him.

Trading Kira Lewis Jr. and Jaxson Hayes for another win-now player is definitely a move that the New Orleans Pelicans should look into, but there is no reason for them to want Wood from Houston and there is no way the Houston Rockets will trade him to New Orleans.

Nothing about this trade screams value for either team, which is why it is a deal that we will not see happen.
