How This Trade Impacts Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic have the second-worst record in the NBA. They are one of a handful of teams that are committed to rebuilding currently. They and the Detroit Pistons are the only teams more than 4.5 games out of a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
This deal with the Boston Celtics is one the Magic will likely be looking to make in the coming weeks once rosters settle down. They have little use for a high-scoring sixth man, as those minutes could be given to the younger players they are looking to develop.
Aaron Nesmith could step right into Terrence Ross’ spot in the Magic’s rotation. His 3-point shooting is something the team could certainly use more of, as almost all of their current guards struggle shooting the long ball.
Creating space around those attacking guards is imperative and Nesmith was regarded as one of the best shooters in his draft class. He would likely step into a bigger role than he has had with the Celtics and fits Orlando’s timeline.

Juancho Hernangomez would be another intriguing younger player for the Magic. They have a deep depth chart in the frontcourt, but he has shown that he can provide solid production when given the chance.
He has not received that chance this season with the Celtics and would likely accept a trade to a team he could carve out a role with.

The second-round pick could end up in the top half of the round, especially if the Celtics fail to qualify for the postseason. Even if it is, later on, extra draft capital is something a rebuilding team will never turn down.
