Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?

The Orlando Magic are rebuilding right now and as a result, the best thing they can do for themselves is leverage older, veteran players for draft picks and young talents.

Cedi Osman is 26-years-old, but he fits that description of being a player the Magic could utilize in their rotations for the foreseeable future, especially since he is under contract through the 2023-24 season, with the final year of his contract being non-guaranteed. 

Osman is affordable, he can produce in any role the Magic put him in, and in this trade, Orlando would be getting a first-round pick. This is what they are searching for in a deal involving Terrence Ross right now and while this pick is Top-8 protected in 2023, it would most likely convey over to the Magic since the Cavaliers are a team on the rise right now. 

Already owning the rights to Chicago’s 2023 first-round pick, this would give the Orlando Magic a total of three first-round picks that year.

Orlando would not only be able to continue building a very strong-looking and sustainable young core, but who knows, maybe they could leverage all three picks and a young talent or two for an All-Star-level player to be the face of their franchise. 

No matter how you look at this trade, the Magic are getting more value back than they are sending to the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is why this trade makes sense for them. Terrence Ross has been a steady presence for them on and off-the-court over the years, but they no longer have use for him in their long-term plans.
