Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
Ending their long playoff drought is something the Sacramento Kings want to do, but unfortunately, it is not looking like they will have the chance to compete for a playoff spot this season. The Kings are currently 13-20 and while they did move on from Luke Walton as their head coach, this team has gone 7-9 since then and really have not been any different than when they started the season.
Sacramento will pick up some big wins this season against teams they should not have beaten, but then they will also lose games to teams that rank below them in the standings. This has seemed to be the recurring theme for the Kings over the years and that is because they do not have much talent on their roster.
De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell all look like young, high-level talents in their backcourt and Harrison Barnes is a veteran that has produced on the wing, but Sacramento ranks 20th in offensive rating and there is no path presented right now for them to get better.
Other than their three guards, the Kings have no young talents and not a whole lot of depth on the wing. Josh Green is another young talent they can build with, Reggie Bullock is a veteran who can be a shooting threat on the wing and it is possible they could swing Dwight Powell for another second-round pick.
Along with the two second-round picks they get from Dallas in this trade, this is not the best deal the Kings could get for Buddy Hield, but what are they really left with right now?

No team is actively trying to pursue Hield from them and the Sacramento Kings have been stuck in limbo over the last several seasons, just trying to find ways to improve. Moving Buddy Hield right now opens the door of possibilities for this franchise not only because of the cap space they create but because they now have more assets to try and add future value with.
At this point, the Sacramento Kings really have nothing to lose, so they might as well try to get as much future value as possible, that is assuming they still are interested in moving on from Hield’s contract.
