The Dallas Mavericks currently find themselves $6M over the salary cap this season and they do have the ability to add another big contract to their roster. In doing so, Dallas would be finding themselves in some cap space problems in future seasons, but they need to make some moves in order to try and win right now.

So far this season, Buddy Hield has recorded 426 points off the bench, the second-most in the league behind only Jordan Clarkson, and the sharpshooting wing ranks second in three-point made (124), trailing only Stephen Curry (154).

Seeing as he ranks 3rd on the Sacramento Kings in scoring this season, why would Sacramento want to trade him, especially since they are trying to snap a 15-year playoff drought? Hield’s time in Sacramento has always been very shaky and after the events that transpired this past offseason, it is very likely that he will be on the move in the near future.

Prior to the 2021 NBA Draft this past summer, the Kings and Lakers were in deep discussions on a trade that would send Buddy Hield to Los Angeles in exchange for a trade package that consisted of Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Kuzma and others.

The deal was close to being completed, but then the Lakers backed up last-minute to instead acquire Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards. Hield was made aware that he was almost traded and this was not surprising to him, as the Kings dangled his name in trade talks around the trade deadline last season as well.

Other than being a three-point shooting threat, Buddy Hield does not bring much to the table for the Kings, which is why getting out of his $60M+ contract is something that they are looking to do.

In this trade, Reggie Bullock could take over Hield’s role as a perimeter scoring threat off-the-bench and while Dwight Powell is someone that would likely be traded to a third team, Josh Green is definitely an intriguing player for the Sacramento Kings to acquire.

Green was drafted 18th overall in 2020 and has barely played in the NBA, but he has shown his potential as a two-way wing from time to time and has done so in the G-League as well.

Sacramento is still rebuilding and should be more than happy to get a high-potential young player in a trade for Buddy Hield, which is why they could show interest in a deal like this, even if they are taking on some unfavorable contracts.
