At some point, the Portland Trail Blazers are going to be making a roster move and it would make the most sense for them to start with trading away Robert Covington.
He is in the final year of his contract, has not been much of a force offensively and while he is a good defender, Nassir Little is starting to overtake him for minutes.
The 31-year-old veteran has been a key defensive player for Portland over the years, but his time has come and gone. He does not present the Blazers with a path to victory this season, which is why leveraging him and Tony Snell, who is on a minimum contract, makes sense.
As mentioned before, maybe Coby White would not fit in with the Blazers already having Lillard, Simons and McCollum in their backcourt, but he would be another key asset they could add to their roster for future trades.

Whether it is this season or next season, teams will be interested in Coby White because of his abilities to create on offense and shoot at a high-rate.
For his career, White has averaged 13.7 points and has shot 35.2% from three-point range, which is why he will have interest moving forward, no matter how many years are left on his contract.
With their first-round picks being tied up through the years due to prior trade commitments, Portland’s only way to add other high-level talents to their roster is by trading away young assets. They have been unwilling to trade both Nassir Little and Anfernee Simons, which is why getting Coby Whte as another young asset could prove highly beneficial to this organization.
For the time being, he would be a solid contributor on offense for the Portland Trail Blazers, but in the grand scheme of things, he would just be another pawn on the chess board to be moved at a later date.
