Does this trade make sense for the Bulls?

This trade absolutely makes sense for the Bulls, even though they would have to give up a talented young player for Robert Covington and Tony Snell, two players that would be “one-year rental” types of talents.

Troy Brown Jr. is in the final year of his contract and is someone the Bulls will be receptive to moving if they can add value on the wing. Coby White is a young player the Bulls do not necessarily want to move, but if they can get a ton of value that helps them win right now, it may be worth doing.

Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso each signed four-year contracts this past offseason and with rookie Ayo Dosunmu being under contract for the same time frame, the Bulls backcourt seems to be pretty well put together at this point.

White is going to be entering the final year of his rookie deal next season and is eligible for an extension this upcoming offseason. Should they keep him, it is hard to see the Bulls giving Coby White said extension, which would result in him becoming a restricted free agent in 2023.

There is a really good chance Chicago would lose White at that rate, which is why trading him now while they can get a handful of value for him makes the most sense.

They would probably like to add a future first-round pick for the young guard, but Robert Covington and Tony Snell give the Bulls two “win-now” guys that can play right away on the wing and perimeter.

Covington gives them more frontcourt depth, plus he makes their defense better, and Snell presents the Bulls with another “3-and-D” player on their bench. Plus, they would get a complimentary second-round pick in 2022 as well, giving them a draft pick to play around with in the offseason.

Chicago’s chances to succeed in the Eastern Conference are high right now given that they have the third-best record, but their championship window is small with the Nets, Bucks and Heat not going anywhere anytime soon.

Their time to take advantage of the moment is right now, which is why a move like this makes sense. They would add more depth in this trade and not really give up much value overall, which is why adding Robert Covington and Tony Snell is a move that if presented to them, the Bulls need to pull-the-trigger.
