Portland Trail Blazers Receive: G Coby White, F Troy Brown Jr.

Finding more depth to add on the wing and at both forward positions is going to be extremely important for the Bulls this season if they are going to have a chance to possibly win the Eastern Conference.

Right now, DeMar DeRozan, Derrick Jones Jr. and Troy Brown Jr. are their only forwards that contribute meaningful minutes. Adding Robert Covington not only gives the Bulls a “3-and-D” player at the power-forward position, taking pressure off of DeRozan, but Covington can also play center in “small-ball” lineups and can even play on the wing at the small-forward position in bigger lineups.

As for Tony Snell, he began his career with the Bulls and spent three seasons in Chicago. He was always a fan-favorite there and since leaving, Snell has turned himself into one of the better catch-and-shoot three-point shooters in the league.

Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Tony Snell has averaged 41.4% from three-point range and he even averaged 56.9% from deep last season on 62-109 shooting in Atlanta. This is a small sample size, but Snell’s ability to knock down shots from the perimeter is a great thing for a team to have on the bench, especially a team like the Bulls who rank 4th in the league in three-point shooting already.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: This Bulls-Kings Trade Is Focused On Marvin Bagley III To Chicago

Giving up Coby White is something that has been discussed within the Bulls’ organization and while they have not actively tried to move him, they have been receptive to fielding trade offers for him. No trades are on the table right now and Chicago does envision keeping him with Ball and Caruso in the backcourt, but there is no better time to move White than at the trade deadline this season.

He is only 21-years-old and having another year left on his rookie deal makes Coby White even more valuable than one would imagine. Portland has Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Anfernee Simons in their backcourt already, but they would almost definitely make room for a talented young player like White and this trade would give them more options moving forward.

Portland’s ultimate goal is to pair Damian Lillard with another All-Star talent, but in order to do so, they are going to need valuable trade assets to give up. Maybe CJ McCollum is one of said assets that they will look to trade away within the next year, but they have no draft picks and only Anfernee Simons and Nassir Little as other young assets to trade.

Bringing in Coby White gives them insurance if they are to give up Simons in a trade and better yet, Portland could now leverage White in future trades should they choose to do so. Adding another All-Star is something the Blazers want to do, but right now, they do not have the assets to do so.

Being in the final years of their contracts, both Robert Covington and Jusuf Nurkic are two players the Portland Trail Blazers could look to move ahead of the deadline this year. They will be much more willing to trade Covington now that Nance Jr. is playing well, which is why the Bulls could look to land him in a deadline trade this season.
