Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Domantas Sabonis
Indiana Pacers Receive: G/F Joe Harris, C Nic Claxton, G Cam Thomas

It is very hard to believe that the Indiana Pacers would be interested in a 3-for-1 swap like this, especially if there are no draft picks involved. Domantas Sabonis is the Pacers’ best player and if they are going to trade him, they are going to need to receive a ton of future value.

Joe Harris is a player they value and were interested in prior to this season beginning, but he is 30-years-old with a limited upside other than being an elite shooter. Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas are both young talents with potential to grow, especially Thomas, but are two unproven talents and a sharpshooter enough for an All-Star in this league?

The goal of trading Domantas Sabonis for the Pacers would be to add as much future value as they can in a trade and this is something they simply would not be doing with this trade.

One of the main reasons they would not be getting draft compensation from the Nets is because Brooklyn does not have any! Due to prior trades, especially the James Harden trade last season, the Nets only have 4 total draft picks through 2028 and they do not have any picks until a second-round pick via Miami in 2025.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Brooklyn Nets Could Trade Joe Harris Ahead Of Deadline?

The only way Indiana could get draft compensation from trading Domantas Sabonis to Brooklyn is if a third or fourth team got involved and they sent some first-round value to the Pacers. What they would get and who else they would have to give up though remains a mystery.

Adding Domantas Sabonis forms a new “Big 3” in Brooklyn, one that definitely makes their frontcourt stronger, but at the same time, Sabonis may not be the best fit with this team. He is more of a low-post scorer and someone who thrives off of getting in the paint and out-muscling his opponents, but that is not really how Brooklyn plays.

The Nets tend to run a lot of pick-and-roll sets with Kevin Durant and James Harden playing isolation basketball and going downhill towards the rim, so Sabonis’ fit here would definitely be in question.

He has never really been a strong pick-and-roll player due to the fact that he is not the most agile big man and with the Nets not utilizing their big men in the low-post, it is hard to imagine they would change their offense for Domantas Sabonis.

The idea of adding another All-Star, especially in their frontcourt, is something that could be appealing to the Brooklyn Nets, but at the same time, Sabonis may not be the right player for them.
