Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?

We will most likely see the Indiana Pacers hold onto Domantas Sabonis ahead of the NBA trade deadline this season, but you just never know! It appears that the Pacers are going to be going through some kind of a rebuild in the coming weeks, hence why Sabonis’ name is being brought up in trade talks, and they definitely do need some kind of a change to happen.

This team looks out of sync, unmotivated and they have seemed to be trending downwards ever since they let Paul George go following the 2016-17 season. Since George left Indiana, the Pacers have gone 187-152 (55.2%) and while they have made the playoffs three times without him, this team has only won three playoff games since then.

The Pacers do not look like a playoff team this season, they have a bunch of holes to fix and they are in desperate need of young talent. Cam Thomas, Nic Claxton and Joe Harris would certainly fix a lot of problems, but unless they are getting 2-3 draft picks in addition to young assets, the Pacers should not be trading Domantas Sabonis.

He and Malcolm Brogdon are not the problems on this team and they can easily still be the faces of the franchise as this team rebuilds. Chris Duarte is a young talent that looks promising and the Pacers have spoken highly of rookie Isaiah Jackson’s skillset, but they need more assets.

Leveraging guys like Myles Turner and Caris LeVert right now for future value and draft picks is the best move the Indiana Pacers can make, especially since they are not going anywhere in the Eastern Conference in regards to the playoff picture.

There is no need to trade Domantas Sabonis, especially in a trade like this where the value they are getting in return is minimal at best.
