Does this trade make sense for the Brooklyn Nets?

We touched on Domantas Sabonis’ style of play not matching up with that of the Brooklyn Nets, but another key reason why the Nets will not want to make this trade is because of Cam Thomas.

Joe Harris and Nic Claxton could definitely be on the move, but Brooklyn is really high on Thomas and they believe the first-round pick could blossom into one of their best scoring options next to Durant and Harden long-term.

Drafted 27th overall this season, Cam Thomas is one of the best pure scorers from this year’s draft class and is starting to put things together on the floor.

Due to injuries and players being in health protocols, Thomas has been given extended time on the floor and has made the most of his opportunities.

On the season, the rookie is only averaging 5.4 points and shooting 38.1% from the floor, but over his last 11 games, Thomas is averaging 9.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and is shooting 42.6% from the floor. Most importantly, the young guard is showing early signs of growth and is getting to learn from two of the best scorers of all-time every single day in Kevin Durant and James Harden.

The kind of lessons and teachings he can learn from these two guys are invaluable to his growth and progression moving forward and with the Nets looking to add some more young, dynamic scorers around their All-Stars, Cam Thomas checks off all the boxes of being the “next big thing” in Brooklyn.

Of course, Domantas Sabonis is a better all-around talent than that of all three players the Nets would be sending to Indiana in this trade, but there is really no reason for them to make this trade.

They are the best team in the Eastern Conference, have been finding success with the guys they have in their frontcourt and do not really utilize their big men on offense much other than LaMarcus Aldridge.

Adding more post-up opportunities to their play sheet and offense is something they could do in order to make this transition with Domantas Sabonis smooth, but this is Kevin Durant’s and James Harden’s team. Adding a guy like Sabonis could really screw things up chemistry wise, especially since he is not a perimeter-to-post type player.
