Brooklyn Nets Could Trade Joe Harris Ahead Of Deadline?

Joe Harris, Brooklyn Nets, NBA Trade Rumors

The Brooklyn Nets are 20-8 and sitting atop the Eastern Conference, two games clear of the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks. Despite being in first place, they are always looking for ways to improve the roster in an effort to maximize their NBA title odds.

The Nets have done a great job overcoming the absence of Kyrie Irving, who remains away from the team as he has still not received his COVID-19 vaccination. He remains ineligible for games at Barclays Center until then, but there is growing optimism that he will return to the team.

Irving’s name had been one mentioned in some trade talks as Brooklyn was open to listening to deals for him. But, there are a lot of hurdles that would need to be cleared in a trade involving him given his vaccination status, personality and contract.

Given the circumstances surrounding Irving, it was not a surprise to hear that the Nets were at least taking calls about him. He won’t help the team win games if he is not on the court, so trading him for players that would be able to play makes sense.

Another player that has been mentioned on the rumor mill is Joe Harris. The update on him was shared at Bleacher Report by Jake Fischer.

“Brooklyn has expressed a surprising willingness to discuss sharpshooter Joe Harris, according to league sources, though he would surely require a pricey offer. “It’s crazy to me; he’s their only real three-and-D player,” said one assistant general manager. “But his name keeps popping up.”

Harris is currently recovering from ankle surgery that had a four to eight week timetable. The sharpshooting wing should be healthy and ready to return before the trade deadline should a deal be made.

It is a bit surprising to see Joe Harris involved in some NBA trade rumors. He is a key cog in the team’s lineup as his 3-point prowess helps spread the floor for Kevin Durant and James Harden to operate. Without him, Patty Mills is the only elite 3-point shooter that Brooklyn has.

It makes sense for the Brooklyn Nets to want to explore every avenue to upgrade the team, but parting ways with Harris would seem to be counteractive to that.
