Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
Adding Marvin Bagley III to their roster would be a really strong move for the Houston Rockets, but they would not make this trade unless they wanted to keep Bagley long-term.
There is no reason to give up assets for the former No. 2 overall pick if they are going to opt not to re-sign him in the offseason, especially since this team is not contending for a playoff spot.
Building a frontcourt with Bagley and Wood as the focal points, having Sengun, Martin Jr., and Theis as complementary options is not a bad idea whatsoever for the Houston Rockets. This is a team that is just looking to build with young, athletic talents for the future success of this organization and Bagley definitely fits this mold.
Injuries have limited his time on the court early on in his career, but when Marvin Bagley has been healthy, he has been impactful. Through the first three seasons of his career, Bagley has averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.8 blocks, and has shot 50% from the floor.

The former top pick has also shot 31.4% from three-point range, showing that he has the ability to be a multi-dimensional scorer on offense.
At the expense of a future first-round pick, which they have plenty of, as well as two unwanted veterans on their roster, the Rockets would be getting a 22-year-old forward that they can build with for the foreseeable future, making this a great deal for this team.
Houston just needs time and young talents right now and by adding Marvin Bagley III, they would be setting themselves up for even more success down the road.
