If the Houston Rockets are going to trade for Marvin Bagley III, then they will need to find a way to move almost $11M in total salaries since they are right under the tax line for this season. Houston does not want to go over this tax threshold this season since they are rebuilding, which is why trading both Augustin and House Jr. would be the way to go for the Rockets.

Eric Gordon and David Nwaba are also two potential players who could be involved in a trade this season, but moving D.J. Augustin and Danuel House Jr. for Marvin Bagley III makes sense financially for the Rockets since these two veteran’s salaries add up to about $11M in total.

D.J. Augustin is now in the 14th year of his NBA career and is going to be turning 34-years-old soon, but he could immediately provide some stability in Sacramento’s backcourt behind the likes of De’Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell.

Being a really reliable perimeter threat, as well as a consistent facilitator, Augustin could be a great mentor to some of the young guards on this Kings roster for a cheap price.

Danuel House Jr. is a career 36.3% three-point shooter and would be a player the Kings could utilize this season as a perimeter threat on the wing.

Being owed $3.8M in the final year of his contract, the Kings would not be tied down long-term to House and would be able to free up some cap space when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Nothing about acquiring Augustin and House makes the Sacramento Kings a better team in terms of competing for a playoff spot, but they would get a little more depth and more importantly, they would be adding experienced veterans to their young roster.

With Marvin Bagley’s head already somewhere else and him not focused on remaining in Sacramento long-term, moving him for the most immediate value makes sense for the Kings, hence why they could consider this trade with the Rockets.
