How This Trade Impacts LA Clippers

The LA Clippers are in a tough spot this season as they do not know when they will be getting Kawhi Leonard back on the court as he recovers from knee surgery. Despite that, the team is playing well as they are currently 10-7.

The Clippers are legitimate title contenders when Leonard and Paul George are both healthy, so they could decide to take advantage of the situation between Kyrie Irving and the Nets to build a Big 3 of their own.

Irving would provide the Clippers with the point guard upgrade they have been looking for. Too often all of the pressure to carry the offense, scoring and setting up teammates, fell upon Leonard and George.

Irving would help take that pressure off of them, as he is one of the better point guards in the NBA when healthy and engaged.

Irving isn’t the strongest defender, but the Clippers remain one of the stronger defensive teams in the league. It would be his offensive impact that they benefit the most from, as his scoring and playmaking could reach new levels of efficiency alongside the star duo already in place.

The package to acquire Irving wouldn’t be too steep either. Eric Bledsoe, Luke Kennard and Keon Johnson are three players the team would be more than willing to include to land someone of Irving’s caliber.

The 2028 first-round pick is the biggest wild card in this deal, but Clippers’ management isn’t thinking that far down the road as they are focused on winning a title as soon as possible.
