This Pacers-Spurs Trade Is Focused on Domantas Sabonis

Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?

If the Indiana Pacers do actually make Domantas Sabonis available on the trade market, then they are going to be signaling that they are preparing for a full rebuild. This would also likely mean that they would trade away Caris LeVert and Myles Turner this season as well.

The opportunity to get young talents and future draft compensation is presented by leveraging all three of their core players, which is why the Pacers can be picky in what exactly they are acquiring. Derrick White and Lonnie Walker IV are two solid, young players on the Spurs’ roster right now, but do they really fit into what the Pacers would need to get back for Sabonis?

Neither guy possesses All-Star potential and while White could provide scoring next to Malcolm Brogdon, the Pacers do have Chris Duarte, Justin Holiday and T.J. Warren when he returns for production on the perimeter next to Brogdon.

The 2023 1st Round Pick they would get may not ultimately provide any use to them since it is a swap and it is currently hard to pinpoint value on the Spurs’ 2024 1st Round Pick because if they got Sabonis, they could potentially make it back to the playoffs by then.

Overall, this trade is not too favorable to the Indiana Pacers because there is a lot of uncertainty that they would be acquiring.

They know what they have with Sabonis right now, but White, Walker, and some first-round picks do not really paint a clear picture for this organization.

If Devin Vassell or Josh Primo was also included in this trade, maybe this would be enough for the Pacers to give up Domantas Sabonis, but overall, they should not be in a rush to do so.

Sabonis is only 25-years-old himself and already a 2-time All-Star, the Indiana Pacers do not need to worry about how he would fit into their rebuilding plans. Moving Turner and LeVert is one thing, but the Pacers should not actively be trying to trade away Domantas Sabonis right now.

If the right offer comes their way, the Pacers would be smart to entertain said offer, but this trade with the Spurs is not the right deal for them involving Sabonis.
