Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Getting Christian Wood would be a huge acquisition for the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the trade deadline this season, but the chances of them being able to trade for him are slim to none.
Wood is the Houston Rockets’ best talent and one of the faces of their rebuild. In order to get him, they would not only have to give up multiple first-round picks and a young talent like Jaden McDaniels, but Houston may want even more value than this, making this trade not worthwhile for the Timberwolves since Wood will be a free agent in 2023.
There are definitely some more big men available to the Timberwolves ahead of the trade deadline this season and while they may cost more than that of Christian Wood, they could be acquired for a little bit less value.
With the Indiana Pacers likely to leverage guys like Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner, maybe one of these guys could be a potential trade target for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In fact, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski recently stated on his podcast that Turner is a player that Minnesota should consider trading for.
“A big man is definitely needed and the Timberwolves know it. The one thing about this front office and this coaching staff is right now is even though they might performing above expectations to what fans would expect, to what the league would expect. They know that they have a lot to work on, they know that the roster isn’t perfect, they know that they need a lot help. So its not like they are sitting this out and saying “We’re fine, we’re gonna go for it.”
“The Timberwolves are also looking at the trade market, in attempt to buy a playoff push. One player Minnesota appears to have interest in is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.”

Christian Wood could bring a lot to the table in terms of making the Minnesota Timberwolves a top offensive team, but so could some other trade targets around the league. Not being available at this time, it would take way too many assets for the Timberwolves to leverage in order to have a shot at landing the Rockets’ big man, making it virtually impossible to acquire him.
