Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?

In no way does this trade make sense for the Hornets not only because they are finding success on the floor right now, but because Tim Hardaway Jr. does not really bring much of an upside to this Hornets team.

For his career, Hardaway Jr. has shot 36% from three-point range, which makes him a great catch-and-shoot three-point threat in Charlotte, but Hayward has averaged 37.1% from deep for his career and is shooting just under 40% from three-point range on the season.

By making this trade with Dallas, the Hornets would be regressing on offense and while Dorian Finney-Smith could give them some more help on defense and on the wing, he is only under contract through this season.

Set to become a free agent, the Hornets would have to choose between him and Miles Bridges and the answer is very easy on who they would be wanting to pay long-term here. The Hornets have nothing to gain from this trade with Dallas, hence why they would be foolish to accept it.

They would need at least two first-round picks from the Mavericks to make this deal and even then they may not be willing to shake up their roster at the trade deadline.

Charlotte ranks 4th in the league in offensive rating right now and at 14-11, there is really no reason for them to make a monumental trade that shakes their roster up. If anything, this team is going to be looking to “buy” more talent at the deadline instead of “sell” some of their best players.
