Alex Len – Sacramento Kings

A more affordable trade target for the Heat to upgrade their frontcourt talent would be Kings’ center Alex Len. Sacramento signed Len in the offseason to a two-year, $7.6M deal, but they could be willing to move on from the veteran big man since their frontcourt is crowded.

The Kings currently have Alex Len, Tristan Thompson, Marvin Bagley, Chimezie Metu, and Richaun Holmes in their frontcourt, so it is not hard to believe that they will look to trade one or two of these guys at the deadline this year.

Now in his 9th season in the league, Len has averaged 7.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and has shot 50.6% from the floor in his career, making him a viable backup option for many teams off the bench.

Given his ability to step out on the perimeter and be a shooting threat, Alex Len could definitely prove to be an asset in Miami, but they do not seem to be interested in adding more frontcourt help.

Bam Adebayo plays upwards of 33 minutes per game and with Dewayne Dedmond as his back-up, the Heat have their center rotations covered.

Not to mention, Miami also has Omer Yurtseven, a young big man who played really well in the preseason. In three summer league games for the Heat out in Las Vegas, Yurtseven averaged 20.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and shot 48% from the floor, showcasing his abilities as a factor in this league.

Should something happen to Bam Adebayo, Dedmon would step into the starting role for this team and they have not only Yurtseven to back him up, but P.J. Tucker, Markieff Morris and even “the ageless one,” Udonis Haslem.

While they could absolutely look to add another affordable frontcourt piece like Alex Len, the Heat really do not need to. This roster is fine the way it is constructed, so we may not see them make many trade deadline moves.

However, the Heat will likely be active during the buy-out period and could look to add a player or two on minimum contracts after they get bought out from their contracts. Alex Len will not be one of these players, which is why Miami should pass on him.

Verdict: Pass
