Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F Jerami Grant, G Rodney McGruder
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Talen Horton-Tucker, G Kendrick Nunn, G Wayne Ellington

Everything about this trade hinders on whether or not the Detroit Pistons are even interested in trading their best player, but they could be interested in Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn, two younger guards who could help elevate this young group of players in Detroit.

The best thing to happen to the Pistons in a while was signing Jerami Grant ahead of the 2020-21 season, as the former second-round pick had a breakout season in Detroit. Grant averaged 22.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and shot 42.9% from the floor last year, making him one of the breakout performers of the year last season.

His contributions on the offensive and defensive end of the floor make him an ideal fit for any contending team in this league and only being under contract through next season, he is the perfect high-level talent that the Lakers could add to their team.

With LeBron James’ health in question for what seems like the first time in his career, as well as the Lakers having a long-term durability concern with some of the older guys on their roster, they need a younger, dynamic player who can fill many roles on the wing.

Jerami Grant is this kind of player and at 27-years-old, he has the perfect blend of youth and experience to help this team win another title.

Giving up Talen Horton-Tucker may not be something the Lakers want to do, especially after they just signed him to a three-year deal this offseason, but he would have to be moved in order to make the money work in this trade.

Due to Horton-Tucker, Nunn, Ellington, and McGruder all signing contracts this offseason, this trade could not happen until after January 15, which could work out in the Lakers’ favor.

Talen Horton-Tucker is just making his way back out on the court after a thumb injury forced him to miss the first few weeks of the regular season and Kendrick Nunn continues to be sidelined due to a knee/ankle injury.

Having both young players get back on the court and prove that they can be factors increases their trade value and possibly makes them more attractive assets for the Pistons to want. In terms of impact and style of play, Jerami Grant is the best player the Lakers could acquire ahead of the trade deadline this year to help them try and win another title.
