Should the Detroit Pistons pursue this trade?

Maybe the Detroit Pistons should look to leverage Jerami Grant while they can for a ton of future assets, but at the same time, they really like what they have in him. Grant has embraced his role as the leader of this young Pistons team and if he did not want to be there, he would not have signed a three-year deal with them last offseason.

Jerami Grant has turned himself into a borderline All-Star talent and at 27-years-old, he does not need to rush things in his career. There is plenty of time left for him to achieve personal accolades and even see the Pistons turn themselves into a contending team with him as their leader.

Talen Horton-Tucker is certainly a talented young talent for Detroit to possibly add, but at the same time, there is no value for them in this trade. Kendrick Nunn and Wayne Ellington do not make sense for the trajectory this franchise is heading in and no other veteran talent on the Lakers’ roster really makes sense for them either.

The worst part about this trade for the Pistons though is the fact that they do not receive a draft pick for Grant. The Lakers would not even be sending them a second-round pick for their best player!

Many teams around the league would definitely contact the Pistons about trading Jerami Grant should they make him available ahead of the trade deadline and many teams would almost definitely add a first-round pick to their trade package to try and convince the Pistons to trade their best player.

This deal with the Lakers is one of the worst that Detroit could receive for Grant, hence why there is no chance they would even think about accepting this deal. The Pistons are rebuilding with Jerami Grant as the face of their franchise right now, which is why they will likely hold onto their best talent through the 2021-22 season and possibly address trading him next offseason.
