How This Trade Impacts San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are staring down a potential rebuild. They are stuck in the middle, unsure if they should rebuild or try and go for it. The moves that were made over the offseason lean toward a team readying for a rebuild.
If that is what they decide to do, Dejounte Murray is one player that could be on the move. He was involved in some trade rumors during the offseason. If San Antonio receives a deal that they like, they would pull the trigger. This deal being the one they like is debatable.
Murray is in the midst of a career season, averaging 18.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. It would be surprising if the best player they could get in return was D’Angelo Russell, who is having one of the toughest seasons of his career.
Parting ways with Thaddeus Young, one of the better trade chips in the NBA, in addition to Murray makes this trade even tougher to fathom San Antonio taking part in. On his own, there is a chance that Young can snag the Spurs a first-round pick in return.

Getting the Minnesota Timberwolves 2023 first-round pick is a good asset to receive. But when trading away arguably the two best assets on the team, San Antonio should be expecting to get more back in return and that’s where Jaden McDaniels comes into play.
