Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Dejounte Murray, F Thaddeus Young
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G D’Angelo Russell, F Jaden McDaniels, 2023 First-Round Pick
The Minnesota Timberwolves had the idea of pairing D’Angelo Russell with Karl-Anthony Towns and forming a dynamic duo. Things have since changed with Anthony Edwards in town.
There is far less need for a player to come in and take tough shots and faze out Edwards and Towns out of the flow of the half-court offense throughout games. Instead, a player like Dejounte Murray who will attack when it’s there but focus on playmaking could go a long way.
The Spurs could use a more dynamic shot creator like Russell, however. There isn’t a lot of scoring firepower on their team and Rusell has shown to be capable of thriving as the focus on a young team where the expectations aren’t high.
Complementary talents on the Spurs’ roster would surely benefit from having a leading scorer take pressure off them and bare the brunt of the opposition’s gameplanning efforts.
