Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
Seeing as they want to move Thaddeus Young for as much value as they can get, the Spurs would definitely be benefitting from acquiring Marvin Bagley III, Leandro Bolmaro, and a second-round pick this year.
Whether or not they would want to keep Bagley long-term really depends on how he fits in with this young core, but they would hold all the long-term leverage over him. Seeing as Young is in the final year of his contract anyway, the Spurs have nothing to lose by going out and acquiring the Kings former No. 2 overall pick because they would be racking up future value with Bolmaro and Minnesota’s 2022 second-round pick.
While he has not played much this season in Minnesota, Leandro Bolmaro is definitely a young international prospect to keep an eye on. The 21-year-old Argentinian has long been called the next best thing in the NBA from Argentina since Manu Ginobili and what better team for Bolmaro to go to than Ginobili’s old team?
The Spurs have always been known for getting the most out of international prospects and having a lot of potential to grow into a Manu Ginobili type of player on the wing, Bolmaro could really fit in well with this athletic, young Spurs’ core.

A second-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft is not bad either for the Spurs, regardless of where this pick ends up. San Antonio is rebuilding right now and is just looking for ways to add value to their franchise.
Maybe whoever they could potentially draft will not bring a lot of value, but this draft pick gives them more options on how to build a sustainable and successful core for the future of the organization. The Spurs are in a good spot right now as a franchise and they could be in an even better one by going out and making this trade with the Timberwolves and Kings.
