Thaddeus Young – San Antonio Spurs

After signing and trading DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls this offseason, the Spurs ended up with Thaddeus Young. The veteran forward is coming off a great year in Chicago last season and at 33-years-old, he is still an impactful frontcourt weapon in this league, but San Antonio is not going to be keeping him long. 

The Spurs are open to trading Thaddeus Young and they have been looking to do so for quite some time now. They were not able to get the value they wanted for him in the offseason, which is why Young still remains on the Spurs roster early on in the new season. 

Last season with the Bulls, Young averaged 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and shot 55.9% from the floor, making him a well-rounded contributor at the power forward position. With Rui Hachimura’s return being a big question mark in Washington right now, the Wizards are in need of a role player who can make a difference at the power forward position. 

Not only can Thad Young be a difference-maker for a team like the Wizards, but the best part about trading for him is that he is in the final year of his contract. He is owed $14.1M this season, which could be tough for the Wizards to try and bring in via a trade, but they do have the ability to free up space in order to make this trade.

Both Davis Bertans ($16M) and Thomas Bryant ($8.6M) could be two players the Spurs would be interested in bringing back in any trade for Thad Young, giving the Wizards options on how they could get a deal done. Bringing in Young is also beneficial for the Wizards financially since they could move out of some long-term contracts and have immediate cap space entering next offseason. 

Thaddeus Young knows what it takes to win in this league and has been doing so with multiple teams over the course of his career, which is why he would fit in perfectly in the Washington Wizards’ frontcourt.
