Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
Moving on from Kristaps Porzingis is something that seems inevitable at this point for the Dallas Mavericks, but finding the right trade partner/value for him is going to be tricky.
Very few teams in the league will want to absorb a $30M+ contract per year over the next three seasons, which is why Porzingis’ value on the open market is lower than anticipated right now.
However, a trade to the Kings would make sense for Kristaps Porzingis because he would get a fresh start with a young team that could play through him. As for the Mavs, getting Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III is not a terrible trade either since both guys can contribute right away to help make them a playoff threat in the Western Conference.

Right now, Dallas is probably going to be anywhere from a 6-seed to the 8-seed in the Western Conference since they have Luka Doncic, but this team is really not that much better than they were a season ago. With scoring holes still to fill and voids in their frontcourt, the Mavericks just do not have the firepower to match up with the likes of the Jazz, Suns, Warriors and Lakers in the Western Conference.
Finding ways to add more overall offensive talent to their roster not just to improve their scoring numbers, but take pressure off of Luak Doncic is essential.
Buddy Hield could give them a 40-plus percentage three-point shooter on the wing who can play either in or out of the starting rotation and Marvin Bagley would give the Mavericks a reliable 14-point, 7-rebound type of player at the power forward position.

The Mavericks would have to give up a future first-round pick as insurance in this trade involving Porzingis, but ultimately, they would save a lot of money from this trade with the Kings and get two key talents that can help them make a playoff push this season. Dallas would definitely benefit from trading Kristaps Porzingis right now.
