Since joining the Dallas Mavericks, Kristaps Porzingis has been trying to chase the ghost of his NBA All-Star past. No longer an All-Star talent, Porzingis has really struggled with the Mavericks, which is surprising given that he is playing next to one of the best all-around facilitators in the league in Luka Doncic.
This duo of Porzingis and Doncic just has not worked out and now, the Latvian big man is once again dealing with an injury that is keeping him sidelined. Kristaps Porzingis has missed four games early on in the season due to a nagging back injury and the big man’s value on the open market continues to decline.
Moving on from him is not going to be easy for the Mavericks to do, but after gauging trade interest in him during the offseason, they will most likely look to see what they can get for him again at the trade deadline this year.
Porzingis is owed $101.5M over the course of the next three seasons, so what team is going to be insane enough to take on this contract?

Missing the playoffs for 15 consecutive years is not something the Sacramento Kings are proud of and they are going to be looking to do everything they can to try and sneak into the Western Conference playoff picture this year. They could be a team willing to take risks and trading for Porzingis could be one of those.
With guys like Richaun Holmes, Alex Len, and Tristan Thompson in their frontcourt, the Kings do have a logjam of big men right now, but they need some help at the power-forward position since Marvin Bagley III is no longer a part of their rotations.
The former 2nd overall pick has been a player the Kings have looked to move on from for quite some time now and they have not been able to get the return value they have been searching for in a trade.
Now, after declining to offer him a contract extension prior to the start of the season, they have thus benched him until they decide on his future, leading Bagley and his agent to be extremely frustrated with the team. A trade seems inevitable for Bagley and the Kings right now, hence why they could have interest in Porzingis.

Seeing as the Kings want to snap their postseason drought and the Mavericks could be willing to absorb value right now to get out of Porzingis’ contract, there could be a deal to be had here before the trade deadline this season.
