Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?

Going out and getting Thaddeus Young would definitely be a solid move for the Boston Celtics to make this season, especially since they have a $17.1M TPE that needs to be used at some point this year.

After agreeing to a sign-and-trade deal involving Evan Fournier with the Knicks, Boston created this massive trade exception for themselves. They can absorb a contract up to $17.1M for this season without any major financial problems occurring, which is why they could make a trade like this with San Antonio work.

Being able to do a little bit of everything at the power-forward position, Thaddeus Young would not only complement Al Horford and Robert Williams III in Boston’s frontcourt quite well, but he would allow Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to play their natural positions on the wing.

Rebounding has always been a strength of the Boston Celtics too and adding Young makes them an even better rebounding team than they already are this season.

Through 7 games, Boston currently ranks 11th in the league in total rebounding, 12th in the league in offensive rebounding, and 13th in defensive rebounding.

Right now, the Celtics are just struggling early on in the season because of all the new pieces they have and all the changes Ime Udoka has made to their system. They are going to turn things around at some point and once again prove that they are a legit threat in the Eastern Conference.

It would not be a bad idea whatsoever to have another veteran, reliable presence in their frontcourt like Thaddeus Young, which is why trading for him while sacrificing little assets makes sense.
