Boston Celtics Receive: F Thaddeus Young, F Keita Bates-Diop
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Romeo Langford, F Grant Williams, BOS 2022 2nd Round Pick, POR 2023 2nd Round Pick (via BOS)

Just based on first glance, this does not seem like a lot of value going to San Antonio for the veteran power-forward, but both Romeo Langford and Grant Williams are two players on rookie-scale contracts still.

Drafted 14th overall in 2019 by the Celtics, Romeo Langford is still looking to find his footing in the league. Injuries have cost him multiple chances to earn a spot in the Celtics’ rotations over the years and he seems like a young talent that Boston does not seem too keen on moving forward after just acquiring Josh Richardson and having Payton Pritchard in their backcourt.

As for Grant Williams, he was drafted 22nd overall in 2019 by Boston and has started out this season playing quite well as a wing/power-forward hybrid. Through the team’s first seven games, Williams has averaged 8.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and is shooting a career-high 47.6% from three-point range.

Getting better defensively and only being 22-years-old, Grant Williams is definitely a player that could fit in with San Antonio’s system quite well, especially since they have some holes to fill at both forward positions.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: 3 Logical Trade Suitors For Spurs Forward Thaddeus Young

The San Antonio Spurs would like first-round value for Thaddeus Young right now, likely meaning that they want a first-round pick over the next few seasons, but they just are not going to get this kind of value right now.

If Young plays well with Poeltl out and he is still on their roster closer to the trade deadline, maybe the Spurs can salvage some value for the veteran, but they are going to be stuck with these kinds of trades right now.

The good thing about this trade for San Antonio though is that Keita Bates-Diop cannot be traded until December 6, so there is time for them to improve Thaddeus Young’s overall value and possibly get more from the Celtics in this deal.

Being able to absorb the contracts of both players with trade exceptions they have, the Boston Celtics would have no problem bringing in the likes of Thaddeus Young and Keita Bates-Diop, assuming they would not waive Bates-Diop upon arrival.

There is certainly some value for both sides to acquire in this trade, but will the San Antonio Spurs be so willing to part ways with the veteran power-forward for a smaller asking price than they would like?
