Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?

Both Romeo Langford and Grant Williams could be two young players the Spurs can add to their group of youthful talent, but is this really the best trade they could get for Thaddeus Young?

Assuming they lower their asking price, there will be several more teams other than Boston around the league that will pursue Young, so they may want to hold off until near the trade deadline to get a deal done.

At this point, the Spurs really have nothing to lose long-term. They already have some young, high-level talents on their roster in Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson and others, and all of these guys are going to continue to get better as the year goes on.

San Antonio has a good thing going right now and while they could wind up missing the playoffs for the third straight time, which would be a first in franchise history, the future is bright for them. They are a young, competitive team in the Western Conference, so all they need to do is to continue expanding on their young core.

Acquiring Langford, Williams and two second-round picks in 2022 and 2023 definitely gives them the ability to do so, but neither Langford nor Williams presents much of an upside right now. Who knows, maybe both guys could find something in San Antonio that they could not in Boston, but the chances of this are slim.

Two young, former first-round picks definitely hold some trade value, but in terms of what the Spurs need right now, this trade is not the best they can get for Thaddeus Young.

Revisiting a trade with the Celtics closer to the trade deadline is definitely a good idea though for the Spurs, assuming they have not traded Young to another team before then.
