Does this trade make sense for Detroit Pistons?
Of course, trading for Ben Simmons would make sense for the Detroit Pistons because they really do not have anything to lose. This team has been rebuilding for what seems like years and other than Cunningham and Grant, they really do not have any high-level talents.
Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Killian Hayes, and Hamidou Diallo are all young, secondary pieces that are part of this Pistons core, but they are all still growing as players in this league. The Pistons are not going to be a threat for at least 3-4 years given the team they currently have, which is why adding Simmons could escalate things.
Simmons and Cunningham together would create a really intriguing duo to keep an eye on, especially given their length and skills with the ball, but this move could finally make the Pistons a threat to bring in another big name.
In the early 2000s, Detroit was a big threat in the Eastern Conference and they could get back to being a threat if they were to add Simmons.

This would still be a rebuilding process even with Ben Simmons on the roster, but this trade would give the Pistons options, something they have not had in a while. Simmons and Cunningham together definitely creates an interesting duo in this league that other players could want to join.
