Toronto not “eager” to trade Goran Dragic
Since being traded to the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade deal that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat, Goran Dragic has been involved in a lot of trade rumors. Nobody really knows what the Toronto Raptors are planning on doing this season and they may not even know where they are at until they take the court!
Pascal Siakam is still out due to offseason shoulder surgery and counting Siakam, only nine players who played for Toronto last year remain on their 20-man training camp roster. Of these nine players, two of them do not have guaranteed contracts, so this 2021-22 Raptors team will feature a lot of new faces playing key minutes.
Of course Siakam, VanVleet and Anunoby will be at the forefront of what the Raptors do this season, but there has been no indications on whether or not this team will look to be “buyers” or “sellers” as the season progresses.
Goran Dragic is a key asset on Toronto’s roster right now who not only has a solid amount of value on the trade market, but could be a moveable player for the Raptors to gain more future assets to build with for future seasons.

However, if they keep Goran Dragic on their roster, the Raptors will be in a position where they can possibly contend for a playoff spot again, as they missed the playoffs last year for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
Masai Ujiri is one of the best executives in the league and he will make the right decisions to set this Raptors team up for success both now and for the future, but who knows whether or not this means that Goran Dragic will remain with Toronto all season long.
They could definitely make it back to the playoffs, but the Toronto Raptors are not a championship-contending team right now unless they were to add another All-Star, which is why they will likely wait until near the NBA trade deadline to make a decision on Goran Dragic’s future.

Fred VanVleet and Malachi Flynn are more than capable of leading Toronto’s backcourt, so they could just keep Dragic for a few months until Flynn is ready to take over. Look for Dragic to be on the move near the NBA trade deadline or possibly before it this season.
