Andrew Wiggins’ vaccination status is a major concern for Golden State
New York City and San Francisco have some very strict rules in regards to vaccine mandates and these new laws will be affecting the 2021-22 NBA season. Players on the Knicks, Nets, and Warriors are required to be vaccinated in order to play in home games this season, but unvaccinated away players are allowed to play in both New York City and San Francisco.
You can rub your eyes or glasses all you want, but you are reading this correctly! These are the rules right now and while they sound a little contradictory and hypocritical, this means that Andrew Wiggins is on a short time-frame to get vaccinated before the new season begins.
Recently, the NBA denied Andrew Wiggins’ request for religious exemption from the vaccine and he will be ineligible to play home games until he meets San Francisco’s vaccination requirement. When asked about this matter at Media Day on Monday, Wiggins wished not to speak about his decision and called this a “private matter.”
Whatever the former No. 1 overall pick decides to do, it is his decision and it needs to be respected as so, but at the same time, his choice could wind up costing the Golden State Warriors big-time. This is a huge season for the Warriors as they look to not only get back to the playoffs, but contend for their fourth title in the last eight seasons, something only the Bulls, Lakers and Celtics have done as a franchise in the NBA.

If Andrew Wiggins misses home games this year, he will be putting the Warriors at a big disadvantage, especially since Klay Thompson is still working his way back to the court and likely will not return before their Christmas Day matchup with the Phoenix Suns.
What happens over the next two weeks or so with Wiggins will be extremely important with the Golden State Warriors organization, but a source close to the Warriors organization has told NBA Analysis Network that they have not had thoughts of trading Andrew Wiggins because of this decision yet.

Ultimately, it is hard to believe that Andrew Wiggins will sit out half the regular season due to a vaccine requirement, but you just never know with this league!
