Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Dejounte Murray, G Derrick White, SAS 2023 First-Round Pick (Lottery Protected)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Ben Simmons

The San Antonio Spurs were one of the teams that the Philadelphia 76ers reportedly sent a trade offer to centered around Ben Simmons. In that deal, Philadelphia asked for four first-round picks, three pick swaps, and one young player. To the surprise of no one, the Spurs declined.

This would be a good counteroffer by the Spurs. The 76ers are going to struggle to get what they deem fair value for him, but this trade presents solid value.

Dejounte Murray and Derrick White may not have the upside of someone like Simmons, but for Philadelphia, they would definitely help round out their roster. Murray could step right into the starting point guard role, something the 76ers would have to worry about in any Simmons deal.

Murray is a strong defender in his own right, so the 76ers won’t be losing as much on that end of the court as they would in other deals. He will be 25 when he plays out this season, so there is plenty of time to grow.

Offensively, he is a big upgrade from Simmons. If he can work on finding consistency with his 3-point shot, his offensive game will be taken to another level. He is a very good finisher at the rim, has a solid mid-range game, and is an improving pick-and-roll player.

Philadelphia’s offense would open up more with him and White in the mix. White is a combo guard that can initiate some offense as well. He is an adequate defender, capable of defending both backcourt spots. White can be a good 3-point shooter as well and should see his efficiency improve with a better supporting cast and health.

The lottery-protected first-round pick gives Philadelphia another asset should they look to facilitate another move. If they get desperate enough to move Tobias Harris, they can attach it to him.

While the 76ers come away feeling pretty good about this hypothetical deal, how does San Antonio feel? Let’s take a look.
